Started in 2018, The “Illumin-knit” is a sculpture meant to replicate the dreams and fantasies I so often reference, these sculptures utilize light to create a more tangible representation of these feelings. The airy, open forms lend themselves to reminding viewers of clouds and molecular structures – both of which can also represent dreams and feelings.
The light sculptures featured in this show are a continuation of this 2018 project, with the concepts of the delicate stitches playing with the light showing through, creating a unique effect in the three-dimensional space. To experiment and learn from each project, some feature multiple forms and cutouts, with others relying on a single globe with a specific stitch pattern. While more intricate than the forms in my paintings, my hope is that the viewer will look at both and find a connection between the painted worlds and the forms that have emerged from them.
